Privacy Policy for Volunteer Buddy

Volunteer Buddy ("we," "our," or "us") is a personal volunteering tracker that works primarily on your device. Your records are stored on your device and synced across your own Apple devices through your iCloud account. We do not operate a Volunteer Buddy account system or a developer server that receives your volunteering data. This policy explains what data the app handles, how it is used, and your choices.

1. Data You Create in the App

Volunteer Buddy stores the volunteering records you enter, which may include:

  1. Organizations you volunteer with, including name, optional website, and notes.
  2. Locations, including an optional name, address, and latitude/longitude coordinates.
  3. Activity types you define to classify your work.
  4. Completed activities, including date, optional start time, duration, organization, activity type, location, and notes.

Volunteer Buddy does not read your device address book and does not integrate with Apple Contacts or any other contacts source.

2. How Your Data Is Stored and Synced

  1. Your records are stored locally on your device.
  2. If iCloud is enabled for the app, your records sync through your Apple account into private storage that belongs to Volunteer Buddy alone, and from there to your other Apple devices. That storage is specific to this app; it is not shared with other apps and is not a place you open or browse directly.
  3. This sync uses Apple iCloud/CloudKit. That storage sits in your iCloud account rather than on any server we operate. It is handled by Apple under Apple's terms and privacy policy and is not accessible to us.

3. Location

  1. Location access is optional. If you grant "While Using the App" location access, the app can suggest a nearby saved location when you begin logging an activity and can improve map search and pin placement.
  2. Location is used on your device. Map search and address lookup use Apple MapKit services, so relevant request data is processed by Apple to return results.
  3. You can use the app without granting location access and enter or select locations manually.

4. Apple Services

Volunteer Buddy relies on Apple platform services rather than a developer backend:

  1. Apple iCloud/CloudKit for syncing your records across your own devices.
  2. Apple MapKit and geocoding for map-based location search, pin placement, and address lookup.
  3. Apple push notifications are used to support iCloud sync between your devices.

These interactions are handled by Apple under Apple's terms and privacy policy.

5. Data Sharing and Selling

  1. We do not sell your personal data.
  2. We do not share your data with data brokers or advertising networks.
  3. We do not use third-party analytics or ad SDKs in the current app implementation.
  4. We do not operate developer servers that receive your volunteering data in the current implementation.

6. Tracking

We do not track you — not for advertising, and not for any other purpose. Volunteer Buddy does not follow you across other apps or websites, and it does not combine your information with data from third parties to profile or identify you.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

  1. Your records remain available until you delete them or remove the app.
  2. You can delete organizations, locations, activity types, and activities inside the app.
  3. You can revoke location access anytime in iOS Settings: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Volunteer Buddy.
  4. You can control syncing by managing iCloud for the app in iOS Settings under your Apple account.
  5. Removing the app removes app data stored locally on the device, subject to iOS backup and restore behavior. Records already synced to iCloud stay in the app's private iCloud storage and are managed through your Apple account under Settings > [your Apple account] > iCloud.

8. Children's Privacy

The app is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children for profiling, advertising, or sale.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The effective date will reflect the latest version.
