Usage
iPad keyboard navigation
Volunteer Buddy is designed to be usable on iPad with an attached hardware keyboard. A visual focus ring shows which row, button, field, or chooser currently receives keyboard actions. The tables below list the available shortcuts, grouped by where focus currently is.
Global
These work from anywhere in the app.
| Cmd-1–Cmd-7 | Switch to a top-level destination in the sidebar (Dashboard, History, Reports, Organizations, Activity Types, Locations, Settings). |
| Cmd-N | Create new. In Organizations, Activity Types, or Locations this starts a new record of that type; anywhere else it opens a new Log Activity entry. |
| Ctrl-F | Focus the search field on screens that support search (History, Organizations, Activity Types, Locations). |
| Escape or Cmd-. | Close the current popover or chooser, cancel an open form, or return focus to the sidebar. |
Sidebar
When the sidebar has focus:
| Up / Down | Move the highlighted destination row. |
| Return | Select the highlighted destination, keeping focus in the sidebar. |
| Tab or Right Arrow | Move focus from the sidebar into the selected screen. |
Lists
Applies to History, Organizations, Activity Types, and Locations:
| Up / Down | Move the highlighted row. |
| Return or Space | Open the highlighted row. |
Forms
Applies to Log Activity and any record's edit screen:
| Tab / Shift-Tab | Move through form controls in visual order. Text fields take normal typing focus; chooser rows, date rows, toggles, and buttons show their own focus ring. |
| Cmd-S or Cmd-Return | Save the form. |
| Cmd-E | Edit the current detail screen, on screens that support editing. |
| Escape | Cancel the form without saving. |
Choosers
Applies to any chooser row (Organization, Activity Type, Location, and similar pickers) once it has focus:
| Space or Return | Open the chooser. |
| Up / Down | Move the highlighted option. |
| Return | Select the highlighted option and close the chooser. |
| Escape | Close the chooser without changing the current value. |
